Rice, River and Canal- these three compose Barisal. Yes...we tell you the story of the southern part of Bangladesh.

Long ago, the south was the storage of abundant crops. Ample food resource of the south ensured food security for the entire Bangladesh.

Here, villages are knotted with rivers. In those villages you will see lush orchards of guava, hog plums, and lemons. All these are the solutions to food, nutrition and to become socio-economically sustainable.

The barriers have become more evident now. Due to salt water shrimp farming, hundreds of hectares of land in the coastal belt including Khulna, Satkhira and Bagerhat have gradually become saline every day.

Cyclone Sidr- 15th of November, 2007 and Aila- 27th of May, 2009. Two shattering blows for Bangladesh. These two have forced the southern coast back for many years. Still, people living in this region are in search of their natural life cycle.

Soil, water and the coast of the south have signs of promise. Even in countless misfortunes, the smile they have on their faces is undeniably the real inspiration for the 160 million people of Bangladesh, because it is the paradise of plenty.
